Obama has officially lost all credibility in my mind. A couple of thoughts as to why:
Obama is NOT acting fiscally responsible, despite what he tells you. Even if he trims the deficit in half by the end of his first term, as he says he plans on doing, he is NOT counting the $787 billion stimulus bill passed last week or the $410 billion spending bill that is making its way through the government today in his statements. You can not say you are cutting the deficit in half but NOT count the trillion dollars in extra spending that is close to being approved. He is undeniably misleading the American public by saying he is doing a good job with our budget.
What the government is doing, before our very eyes, is absurd. We are being told one thing that is completely different than reality. This is not like Iraq; Iraq was an issue of belief. This is an issue of accounting. We are not cutting our deficit; we are adding to it. We are not balancing the budget; we are taking out loans that will take us a generation to pay back. And we are NOT paving the way for a brighter future; we are paving the way for a weaker dollar and an economic system dependent on government handouts as opposed to investment and free enterprise.
The best way to get us out of this economic downturn is to fix the system, not the problem. The government needs to realize that an economic correction (recession), no matter how painful it is, would be be better long term for this economy than the current route of handouts and stimulus packages that will eventually need to be paid back. We simply need to adjust to living within our means. The government also needs to realize the fact that, unless there is a baby boom in this country, we will not have the tax base to pay for everything the liberals in power want to provide. Smart things government should pay for that will make us more competitive economically? Energy and education, plain and simple. We need to get rid of costly entitlements and government handouts and start lowering the tax rates to allow businesses to be more profitable. Businesses create jobs and opportunities independently; government creates jobs and opportunities only at the expense of others or by manipulating the free markets.
The final reason why I am upset with Obama is overall hypocrisy. So...let me get this straight. We are in the economic mess we are in today because businesses and individuals relied too much on credit. We bought things we could not afford and used credit we should not have been given. Please, someone, just tell me how that is in any way different than what the government is doing today?!?!
Until we meet again, goodbye!
