More Broken Promises!

Not only did Barak Obama vote for a bill that would put a moratorium on earmark spending for fiscal year 2009, he actually co-sponsored it!!!! Follow all the links here: http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2009/03/obama-earmark-1.html

Now look at the hypocrisy; Obama has signed a bill with at least 7,500 earmarks (most estimates put the number at 9000). The overwhelming majority of earmarks are spending items that are not voted on or debated by Congress. Here is a good rule of thumb that Congress should be held to; if the issue is not important enough to discuss and vote on, it does not deserve federal money appropriated to it. If your state will not pay for it, why should the federal government?

Government activity such as this always enrages me. But what enrages me more is Obama trying to say that, from now on, we are going to pay attention to earmarks. Ridiculous. Not only did he campaign and debate with John McCain over the principle of eliminating earmarks and other wasteful government spending, and going through the budget "line by line", but he has actually co-sponsored bills on the past that tackle this exact issue! You missed your chance to act Obama. You should not have pushed this to "next time". You told us you were going to fix it, and you blew it.

At this young stage of his Presidency, with approval ratings above 60%, Obama could easily have said, "Give me a bill with no earmarks". A precedent would have been set like no other, and the government would still have all the money it needed to operate. Perfect.
